What a Coffee Degassing Valve Does
Roasted coffee can continue to release gas after roasting. A one-way degassing valve is designed to allow that gas to exit while limiting outside air entry through the valve.
The valve is reviewed with the coffee, material structure, bag format, closure and packing process.

Why do coffee bags use degassing valves?
Roasted coffee can release gas after roasting. A one-way degassing valve is designed to let gas exit the package while limiting outside air entry, as one part of the complete coffee packaging specification.
Does every coffee bag need a valve?
No. The need for a valve depends on the coffee product, packing timing, distribution approach, bag format and other project requirements.
Can a coffee bag have both a valve and zipper?
Yes, selected projects use both a valve and zipper, including standard, side or pocket-zipper configurations. Compatibility and placement must be reviewed as part of the complete bag specification.
Where is the valve placed on the bag?
Placement is reviewed around the bag format, artwork, expected fill level and headspace, zipper position, seal areas and production requirements. There is no single position for every bag.
Can recyclable coffee bags use degassing valves?
Selected recyclable-direction projects can include a compatible valve. The valve and every other component affect the complete package and its suitability for the intended market.
